A particularly cool Victorian 15ct gold long chain, formed from richly detailed round links with a subtle rope-like texture running through each link. At 22.55 inches, it has that wonderfully versatile length - substantial enough to wear alone, yet perfect for adding a pendant or creating layers.
The real star is the 15ct gold swivel dog clip, an increasingly difficult fitting to find in its own right. Measuring approximately 22mm, the clip is stamped “15ct” and unusually carries the address “95 Bishopsgate St”, adding a wonderful extra detail of period character and provenance. Worn at the front, the dog clip also makes an ideal pendant or charm holder.
The gold colour is typical of 15ct gold - a gorgeous warm gold hue, with a more muted yellow tone appearing as the light changes. Combined with the textured links and natural age-related patina, it gives the chain a wonderfully rich Victorian appearance.
The chain itself is in very good antique condition. There is a chip to one side of the dog clip tongue, as shown in the photographs; importantly, this does not affect its function. The clip retains an excellent spring and closes strongly and securely, remaining in fabulous working order.
A beautiful and highly wearable Victorian chain, with enough detail to be interesting on its own and a particularly special antique dog clip that deserves to be worn front and centre.
