LUCILLE LONDON logo

A beautifully romantic antique horseshoe pendant, set with thirteen glowing opal cabochons framed by delicate rose cut diamond accents and outlined in rich cobalt blue enamel. Newly converted from an antique stick pin, this piece now features a handcrafted 18ct gold bail, transforming it into the perfect wearable talisman.

The opals display a wonderful mix of colour play — flashes of electric blue, green, lilac and soft pink appearing at different angles and in changing light. Tiny rose-cut diamonds are scattered between the opals and along the tops of the horseshoe, adding subtle antique sparkle and beautiful texture. The vivid blue enamel border creates a striking contrast against the warm buttery gold tones of the piece.

Likely dating to the late Victorian to early Edwardian period, this style of opal and enamel horseshoe jewellery was especially popular during the c.1890–1910 era, when lucky motifs and sentimental jewels were highly fashionable.

The pendant tests as high carat gold (approximately 19–20ct, likely 18ct with heavy gilding/wash). A new handcrafted 18ct gold bail has been added. The original pin fitting bore traces of a worn ‘PATENT’ stamp, though the pin itself tested lower purity gold and was therefore removed during conversion.

In good antique condition overall, the piece retains beautiful presence and glow when worn. One opal has a small chip which is not noticeable when worn, whilst another displays a visible crack which interestingly enhances the colour play within the stone. The opals vary naturally in tone and vibrancy, with different stones becoming more lively depending on the lighting and viewing angle. One tiny rose cut diamond is missing from the inner curve of the horseshoe, though this is only visible under very close inspection as the accent stones are extremely small. There is also minor wear to the blue enamel and natural patina to the gold in places, all consistent with age and adding to the antique charm and character of the piece. The rose cut diamonds twinkle beautifully as they catch the light.

A wonderfully characterful antique lucky charm — perfect layered into a neck mess or worn alone as an everyday talisman.
