This exquisite late 19th-century pendant, a recent brooch conversion, is a statement piece with timeless elegance and celestial beauty. The North star-shaped design is centred around a bright and sparkling old mine cut diamond, featuring a coveted high table and an open cullet, estimated at 0.50 carats (H-I in colour and SI in clarity) with a 5mm diameter. The centrepiece is surrounded by 22 rose-cut diamonds, collectively weighing approximately 1.5 carats. While minor nibbles are visible on the edges of some rose-cut diamonds under magnification, these subtle marks are characteristic of the piece’s antique charm and do not detract from its brilliance.

The star motif is enhanced by a deep blue enamel surround, creating a striking contrast with the rich yellow gold tones of the high-carat gold plating. Although unmarked, the brooch professionally tests as a base metal with a heavy gold overlay, providing the appearance and feel of solid gold jewelry.

Measuring 35mm in length and 28.5mm in width, the brooch is lightweight at 4.52g and features a bail (9mm x 5mm, 1mm thick) that allows for wear as a pendant, adding to its versatility. This piece is a beautiful example of late Victorian design, showcasing expert craftsmanship and the era’s affinity for celestial motifs.
